Searching for “Pappy” from Chicago. We served in H and G Cos., 2nd Bn., 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. We were both WIA in an ambush outside FB Russell, June 23, 1969. Seeking information or recollections of incidents in Vung Tau Harbor on Apr. 21 and Apr. 30, 1967. A Vietnam veteran recalls that a small non-military craft (sampan?) exploded after being on fire as observed from H.M.A.S. Sydney (an Australian aircraft carrier). A small military patrol-type boat (nationality unknown) is recalled as also being on operations in the vicinity at the time. Official records do not record such an episode.
