D.C. ) - Rep. Bob Filner, who has represented California’s 51st Congressional District since 1992, will be the guest speaker at the Legislative Breakfast held in conjunction with Vietnam Veterans of America’s 13th biennial National Convention on Saturday morning, July 21, at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Illinois. Filner, who serves as the chair of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, has worked tirelessly on Capitol Hill since the mid-1990s on behalf of veterans and their families.
“We are honored that Congressman Bob Filner will be joining us in Springfield,” said Rick Weidman, VVA’s Director of Government Relations. “He is one of the nation’s most effective legislators working on issues of concern to Vietnam veterans and we are very appreciative that he’s taking time out of his schedule to speak at this important event at our National Convention.”
An estimated 700 delegates from local chapters will join hundreds of other Vietnam veterans and guests at the VVA National Convention in Springfield, which begins on Wednesday, July 18, and runs through Saturday, July 21. The delegates will set the organization’s course for the next two years, elect national officers and the Board of Directors, hear from an array of speakers, attend information sessions, and take part in special events, including the Legislative Breakfast.
