Vietnam Veterans of America to Hold
Biennial National Leadership Conference in Tucson

(Washington, D.C.) – Pulitzer-Prize-winning cartoonist Garry Trudeau, the creator of "Doonesbury", country music singer Paulette Carlson, and Al Giordano of the Wounded Warrior Project, among other special guests, will join the leadership and members of Vietnam Veterans of America at the organization's biennial National Leadership Conference, July 12-16 in Tucson. The conference brings together hundreds of Vietnam veteran advocates who will take part in seminars, meetings, and other activities. Opening Ceremonies will be held Wednesday, July 12.

Conference attendees will take part in several special events, including an Awards Luncheon on Friday, July 14, in which VVA will recognize its members' accomplishments. There also will be addresses by prominent Vietnam veterans and their advocates. Trudeau will receive the President's Award for Excellence in the Arts at the Awards Luncheon.

"All of us in Vietnam Veterans of America look forward to our Leadership Conferences," said VVA National President John Rowan. "They give our leaders from all across the nation the chance to get together in an informal setting and get up to date on all of the issues we are concerned with as an organization. That includes helping veterans obtain VA benefits they’re entitled to, being informed and informing our newest veterans who are returning from Afghanistan and Iraq about Post-traumatic Stress Disorder as well as other veterans health care issues, remaining vigilant concerning the VA health care budget, and participating in advocacy training workshops. Plus, it gives our leaders a chance to get together with fellow Vietnam veterans and share experiences and ideas.”

The conference will be held at the Hilton El Conquistador Hotel and Resort. VVA's supporting organization, the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America, will hold its biennial convention and national elections concurrently with the Leadership Conference.

Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) is the nation's only congressionally chartered veterans service organization dedicated to the needs of Vietnam-era veterans and their families.  VVA's founding principle is “Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.”
