Vietnam Veterans of America
to Hold 12th National Convention

(Washington, D.C.) – Vietnam Veterans of America will hold its 12th biennial National Convention August 10-14 at the Silver Legacy Hotel in Reno, Nevada. Some eight hundred delegates from VVA chapters across the country will join hundreds of other Vietnam veterans and guests in Reno. The delegates will set the organization's course for the next two years, hear from an array of speakers, attend information sessions, and take part in special events, including a star-studded Awards Banquet on Saturday night, August 13.

“We are proud to continue the unique VVA National Convention tradition in 2005,” said VVA President Thomas H. Corey.  “Our leaders get together every two years to decide on our priorities and to elect our national leaders. We’re the only national veterans’ service organization that operates this way and it has proven to be a very successful formula since our first National Convention in 1983.”

“We have come a long way since our humble beginnings in 1978,” Corey added. “VVA today is a highly effective force on the national, state, and local levels, acting on behalf of Vietnam veterans and their families. We’re proud of our accomplishments over the last 27 years, and we’ll be celebrating the past and working for the future in Reno.”

Scheduled speakers include Department of Veterans Affairs Deputy Secretary Gordon Mansfield, who served in Vietnam, and Allen Hoe, medic with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam whose son served and died in Iraq. Hoe will deliver the keynote speech at the Convention’s Opening Ceremonies on Wednesday morning, August 10.
