VVA Thanks Secretary Principi
For Four Years of Exemplary Service

(Washington, D.C.) – “In the four years he has served the nation and his fellow veterans as Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Anthony Principi has shown himself to be a true champion for the rights of veterans,” Thomas H. Corey, President of Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), said on the announcement of Principi’s resignation.

“Navy combat veteran Tony Principi again rendered stalwart service under difficult and trying conditions given the resources at his disposal,” Corey said.  “While we did not always agree with the decisions he made, we came to respect him as a man of principle and moral courage.

“When he did not agree with the amount requested by the White House for the VA’s medical operations for the current fiscal year, he exhibited great integrity by saying publicly that his department needed an additional $1.2 billion to serve the 4.2 million veterans who turn to the VA for the treatment and care to which they are entitled,” Corey said.

“Secretary Principi has devoted much of his career to public service – and to veterans.  Now, as he exits the hot seat that he has occupied so well, we wish him the best in his future endeavors, and we look forward to working closely with him in whatever veteran-related activities he may pursue,” Corey said.  “His successor will have a high bar of accomplishment to reach. On a personal level, we wish Mr. Principi and his family all the best.”

Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) is the nation's only congressionally chartered veterans service organization dedicated to the needs of Vietnam-era veterans and their families.  VVA's founding principle is “Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.”
