(Washington, D.C.) –
An award-winning power point presentation put together by high school students in Louisiana will be shown to attendees at Vietnam Veterans of America’s National Leadership Conference on Thursday, August 5, at the Sheraton Downtown Nashville Hotel. The power point, produced by Monica Kirkendall, an American history teacher in Lake Charles, La., received an award from VVA’s Louisiana State Council for promoting and teaching patriotism and love of country.

“This is an excellent production and one I am sure the Vietnam veterans at the conference will find very rewarding,” said Leslie DeLong, who headed the Louisiana State Council’s Teachers Award Committee. “Ms. Kirkendall did an excellent job of guiding her students as they gathered music, photos, and other materials from America’s wars and put them together. At the end of the project the students conducted a memorial for their school alumni who served in the Vietnam War and other wars.”

More than 400 Vietnam veterans will convene in Nashville for VVA’s National Leadership Conference, which begins on Wednesday, August 4, and ends on Saturday, August 7. Conference attendees will attend dozens of seminars, hear from an array of speakers, and take part in other special activities.

Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) is the nation's only congressionally chartered veterans service organization dedicated to the needs of Vietnam-era veterans and their families.  VVA's founding principle is “Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.”
