NAVY VETERAN ED VICK TO DELIVER KEYNOTE SPEECH
 AT VIETNAM VETERANS CONFERENCE

(Washington, D.C.) – Ed Vick, a former Navy officer who went on to a distinguished career in advertising and marketing, will deliver the Keynote Speech at the Opening Ceremonies at Vietnam Veterans of America’s National Leadership Conference at the Sheraton Downtown Nashville Hotel on Wednesday morning, August 4. The ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m. and are open to the public.

“Vietnam Veterans of America is honored that Ed Vick has agreed to kick off the conference,” said VVA national President Thomas H. Corey. “I can’t think of anyone more qualified to talk to Vietnam veterans about what leadership means and how to be an effective leader. Ed served his country with distinction as a Navy officer in the Vietnam War, and then went on to have a successful career at the top of his profession in marketing and advertising.”

Ed Vick, who recently retired as chairman of the advertising giant, Young & Rubicam, joined the Navy after graduating from college in 1966 and volunteered to go to Vietnam. He served a 1968-69 tour of duty as the commander of a Brown Water Navy River Patrol Force boat in the Mekong Delta. Vick, a member of Vietnam Veterans of America, led more than one hundred combat patrols during his tour, most through enemy-held territory along Cambodia’s Parrot’s Beak and on the upper Bassac River and the Vinh Te Canal along the Cambodian Border. He was awarded, among other honors, two Bronze Stars and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

In the 1980s Vick served on the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program and of the New York City Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission. He recently published a novel, Slingshot, which is based on his experiences in the Vietnam War.

Several hundred Vietnam veterans will convene in Nashville to take part in the National Leadership Conference, which runs through Saturday, August 7. Conference attendees will attend more than two dozen seminars, hear from an array of speakers, and take part in many other activities.
