(Washington, D.C.) –
Members of Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America (AVVA) will visit
hospitalized veterans at the John Cochran Division of the St. Louis VA
Medical Center on Tuesda,y July 28 at 2:00 pm.
"We are very excited about our visit to the hospital," said AVVA National
President Nancy Switzer. "We will distribute personal care items and canteen
books to our veterans in the medical center."
The John Cochran Division hospital is part of the Veterans Health
Administration operation in St. Louis that includes Jefferson Barracks, site
of the St. Louis National cemetery.
"We want to make the public aware of the importance of volunteering at local
veterans hospitals," said Judith McCombs, a member of the Executive
Committee of the VA Voluntary Service (VAVS) National Advisory Committee and
National VAVS Representative for Vietnam Veterans of America. "You don't
need to be a veteran to volunteer."
The 100-bed, full-service acute inpatient ambulatory care facility serves
veterans in east central Missouri and south western Illinois. It is
affiliated with St. Louis University School of Medicine, Washington
University School of Medicine, St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Southern
Illinois University School of Dentistry, and University of Missouri-St.
Louis School of Optometry.
"We look forward to spending time with our veterans at the hospital,"
Switzer said. "These brave men and women have devoted their lives to
securing freedom and justice for their fellow citizens and deserve our
respect and recognition."
AVVA is a national organization that promotes legislative and educational
programs for veterans and their families. It is affiliated with Vietnam
Veterans of America.
