BUFFALO, N.Y.- Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America (AVVA), with hold its first biennial membership meeting in Buffalo, NY, at the Hyatt Regency, Two Fountain Plaza, Wednesday, Aug. 3 through Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000.

AVVA's first meeting, since its formation as a not-for-profit organization in May of 1999, is schedule to coincide with Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) National Leadership Conference. Its members, who are family, friends and supporters of VVA, its parent organization, will hold elections for the national officers during the scheduled events.

In conjunction with their first meeting, attending members will perform community service work in the Buffalo area. Named Project Friendship, AVVA has traditionally selected programs to assist those communities where their meetings are held. At this conference, AVVA has planned to serve meals at the Buffalo City Mission, and to distribute donated personal care items and clothing to residents at Cornerstone Manor on Aug. 2.

 AVVA has been accepting donations from VVA chapters across the nation for the Buffalo Project Friendship program. Individuals and organizations in the Buffalo area are encouraged to make additional donations. Project Friendship is in need of new underwear and socks for children, diapers of all sizes, toothpaste, tooth brushes, hair brushes combs, hair barrettes, sun glasses, baby formula, school supplies, educational children's books, high chairs, car seats and strollers. The men's shelter is in need of t-shirts in all sizes and personal care items. Monetary donations will be gratefully accepted. Please make checks payable to the Buffalo City Mission.
