VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA TO CONVENE NATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE


BUFFALO, N.Y.- Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), the nation's only congressionally chartered Vietnam veterans service organization, will hold its 8th biennial leadership conference in Buffalo, NY, at the Hyatt Regency, Two Fountain Plaza, Wednesday, Aug. 3 through Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000.

Nearly 600 members, Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America (AVVA) and their families will attend events and seminars designed to bond and strengthen the veteran leadership from around the nation. Seminar topics will cover a broad spectrum of issues important to veterans and their families to include health, education, employment and homeless veteran subjects.

Keynote speaker is Miss America 2000 Heather French who is on a national speaking tour entitled, The Forgotten Heroes: Honoring Our Nation's Homeless Veterans. Other conference speakers and distinguished visitors will include the Assistant Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs' Planning and Policy Dennis M. Duffy; Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs' Center for Women Veterans Joan A. Furey; Director of the Department of Veteran Affairs' Center for Minority Veterans Willie L. Hensley; Cong. John J. LaFalce (D-NY-29th); Cong. Rick Lazio (D-NY-1st); New York State Assemblyman Ronald Tocci; Assistant Administrator of the Office of Veterans Affairs' Small Business Administration Programs Clifton Toulson, Jr.; Hatfield Consultants, LTD. Vice President and Principal Dr. L.W. (Wayne) Dwernychuk; Hatfield Consultants, LTD. Chief Operating Officer and Senior Environmental Specialist Thomas Boivin. Plenary Session and Closing will be addressed by retired Army Brig. Gen. George B. Price.Other national and New York state government officials will be attending the conference.
