VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA
URGES NATION TO REMEMBER SERVICEMEN AND SERVICEWOMEN

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 16, 1998)

As our country prepares for the potential of a ground war in the Middle East, we, as a nation, must focus on the young servicemembers who have been deployed and stand ready to accomplish their mission.

Said Vietnam Veterans of America president George C. Duggins, ``Let us put aside all distractions and focus on what is important. We, as Vietnam veterans, know the importance of a supportive nation. Let us keep our thoughts with those young men and women who volunteered to stand ready to defend the ideals that our country represents.... Freedom, democracy, and world peace.

``In our communities nationwide, let us support the families of these servicemembers...the parents...the children, the sisters and brothers, as they brace for the unknown and prepare for the potential of war.

``And should that potential of war be realized, let us not forget, war is not an academic exercise, and we, as a nation, are obligated to fully support these young servicemembers in their mission from beginning to end’’

Vietnam Veterans of America is a congressionally chartered veterans service organization dedicated to the needs of veterans and their families. Vietnam Veterans of America’s founding principle is

Never again shall one generation of veterans abandon another.
