VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA
URGES NATION TO REMEMBER SERVICEMEN AND SERVICEWOMEN
WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 16, 1998)
As our country prepares for the potential of a ground war in the Middle
East, we, as a nation, must focus on the young servicemembers who have
been deployed and stand ready to accomplish their mission.
Said Vietnam Veterans of America president George C. Duggins, ``Let
us put aside all distractions and focus on what is important. We, as Vietnam
veterans, know the importance of a supportive nation. Let us keep our thoughts
with those young men and women who volunteered to stand ready to defend
the ideals that our country represents.... Freedom, democracy, and world
``In our communities nationwide, let us support the families of these
servicemembers...the parents...the children, the sisters and brothers,
as they brace for the unknown and prepare for the potential of war.
``And should that potential of war be realized, let us not forget, war
is not an academic exercise, and we, as a nation, are obligated to fully
support these young servicemembers in their mission from beginning to end’’
Vietnam Veterans of America is a congressionally chartered
veterans service organization dedicated to the needs of veterans and their
families. Vietnam Veterans of America’s founding principle is
